Tecate's New SMPS Stacked MLC Capacitors For High CV Applications

Parts Feature Capacitance Values
Of up to 33 uF and Extremely Low ESR

San Diego, CA, February 10, 2009…Tecate Group, a leading global supplier of capacitors and supercapacitors, today announced the new CSM Series of stacked Switch Mode Power Supply Capacitors (SMPS) employing Multilayer Ceramic (MLCC) construction.  The SMPS stacked capacitors offer high capacitance levels comparable to tantalum devices, but with an extremely low Equivalent Series Resistance (ESR).  Engineered specifically to handle high ripple current at high frequencies and high power levels, the parts are available with capacitance values of up to 33 uF.  Notably, the vertical stacking of the capacitors’ ceramic components minimizes the footprint required for mounting, while strain relief is provided by the lead frame design.

These SMPS stacked capacitors' low ESR and Equivalent Series Inductance (ESL) makes them ideally suited for employment in a wide range of high CV consumer and industrial applications in which weight, size, and durability are critical factors.  Included among the applications for which the parts are most commonly specified are surge protection, input and output stages of DC filters in high-power/high-frequency motor drives, snubber and industrial control circuits, as well as low power electronics.

Capacitors in Tecate's CSM Series are offered in EIA 1825 and 2225 size codes, and in both NPO and X7R dielectrics.  They feature an operating voltage range of from 25 to 500 VDC, and capacitance values ranging from 0.047 uF to 33 uF.  Operating temperature range is from -55 degrees C to +125 degrees C.  Parts are supplied in J, L, and N leaded configurations to provide enhanced mechanical and thermal stress relief.  For additional information, visit  Customized parts are available.
