What is RoHS:  A directive that became law in the European Union (EU) countries in February of 2003 and was implemented on July 1, 2006 for the Reduction of Hazardous Substances in electrical and electronic equipment.
(EU Directive 2002/95/EC)

The purpose of RoHS: To restrict the use of certain hazardous substances and address the related  waste management problems that pose health and environmental risks.

 

Substances and limits covered  by the RoHS directive:

  • Cadmium (Cd)  < 0.01% of component weight.
  • Hexavalent Chromium (CR VI)  < 0.10% of component weight.
  • Lead (Pb) < 0.10% of component weight.
  • Mercury (Hg)  < 0.10% of component weight.
  • Polybrominated biphenyls (PBB)  < 0.10% of component weight.
  • Polybrominated diphenyls  (PBDE)  < 0.10% of component weight.

 

*Note: In some cases and for some dielectrics Pb may exceed 0.1% - Exempt per Annex 7, Article 4.1.
